International Master of Business Administration (IMBA)

Purpose
The purpose of the International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) Program is to assist students in the study and integration of business administration theory and practice in an organization. This study and integration is done from the perspective of Christian ethics and values. This program is designed for working adults at the entry- to mid-level of management who want to expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities in business to complement their working experiences and to expand their career opportunities.

The program is primarily oriented towards people with an undergraduate degree in either management or business administration. However, it is designed so that, with appropriate prerequisites, a student with an undergraduate degree in another discipline should be able to complete the program successfully.

Program Objectives
Upon completion of the International Master of Business Administration Program, candidates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the core principles and concepts of business administration in the following functional areas: general management theory and practice, quantitative methods, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, and organizational communications
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the supporting management studies of group dynamics, human resource management, and operations and service management
  • Demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of Christian ethics in management as well as the role of Christian leadership and service
  • Demonstrate knowledge in a concentration area of general management or health care administration
  • Integrate all aspects of their learning, understanding, knowledge, and skills concerning business in a capstone strategic management course
  • Demonstrate currency with trends in management, the leading sources of business information, current publications, and other available resources, both in text and on the Internet
  • Address effectively ethical issues in business administration and management
  • Bring the Christian faith and values to bear on business processes.

The foundational courses listed below represent the business competencies expected of an MBA student:

  • Financial Accounting (completion required prior to ACTG 545 & BUS 550)
  • Statistics (completion required prior to BUS 580)
  • Business Law (recommended)
  • Economics (recommended)
  • Business/Corporate Finance (recommended)

To meet the competencies students are expected to earn a grade of "C-" or better in NCU foundational courses or equivalent undergraduate courses from another regionally accredited institution.

Assimilation/Gateway Courses:
There are a total of 9 credits of assimilation courses prior to starting the business core classes which are the following:

  • BUS 516 Employment in the US (3 credits)
  • BUS 517 Communicating Across Cultures (3 credits)
  • BUS 518 US Cultures and Customs (3 credits) 

Curricular Practical Training
Curricular Practical Training in the IMBA program consists of a one credit per semester. The instructor of record will meet once per month with the class as a whole to cover assignments/readings and is designed to help students reflect on work experience within the context of the course material. There is a total of 6 credit hours of practical training. The practical training can be covered in Fall, Spring or Summer semesters.
